Cell biologist Tung-Tien “Henry” Sun, whose doctorate is from UC Davis, returns to the campus this weekend to present Scientific Methods: Survival Skills for Young Investigators, a free, one-day workshop for graduate students and post-docs.

Workshop topics: experimental design, grant writing, scientific writing and oral presentation.

The workshop is scheduled for Saturday (June 16). Organizers with the university’s Superfund Research Program said seating is limited, so, if you want to attend, sign up early. And, if you register by 4 p.m. Friday (June 15), you will receive a free lunch. Sign-ups are being taken online.

Sun gave a similar presentation here in 2000, drawing rave reviews from students and faculty. The experience inspired him to develop his ideas more formally, and he has been presenting his “Scientific Methods” lectures and workshops around the world ever since.

Sun received his UC Davis doctorate in 1974 in the Biochemistry Graduate Group.

He joined the faculty of the New York University School of Medicine in 1988. He is a professor in the departments of dermatology, pharmacology, urology and cell biology, and director of the Epithelial Biology Unit in the Department of Dermatology, doing research in epidermal, corneal and urinary tract epithelia.

Registration the day of the event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. The workshop is from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in 1005 Genome and Biomedical Sciences Facility.
