WORKING THE CAPITOL ON OUTREACH DAY...

UC Davis staff and students walked the halls of the State Capitol on April 14 as part of a larger effort to raise awareness and inform state leaders about the impact of the proposed elimination of outreach programs. At right, UC Davis students Eddie Carmona and Jazmin Ponthier, and staff members Mike Dang, Yvonne Marsh and Dan Roy talk to Jedd Medefind, chief of staff for Assemblyman Tim Leslie during Outreach Day. Ed Aguilar, director of Early Academic Outreach Programs, was a UC Davis team leader. Outreach Day, organized by the nonprofit Access for All, pulled together middle and high school students from across the state who have benefited from higher education outreach programs. Representatives from UC, CSU and the California Community College systems organized teams to speak to legislators. The day included a press conference, a rally on the front steps of the Capitol, visits with legislators, and a hearing held by the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education.
