A daylong health fair on medical issues affecting women will be held Tuesday, April 14, at the University of California, Davis.
Titled "Alive and Well! Women, Health and Healing," the free, public event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in MU II of the Memorial Union. Screening, tests, demonstrations and other information will be available at about 30 resource stations.
Among the areas the fair will address are breast implants, gender bias in medical research, breast cancer, AIDS, infertility, eating disorders, the political battle over abortion, and occupational health hazards. Also featured will be a book display and a free bibliography highlighting current books on women's health.
Liz Applegate, an author and lecturer in the nutrition department at UC Davis, will speak at 11 a.m. on sensible nutrition for women. A panel discussion will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on breast cancer, featuring medical experts and survivors of the disease. Half-hour presentations will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. in adjacent rooms on other topics. For more information on specific times, locations and subjects of the presentations, call (916) 752-3372.
