“One World, One UC Davis” is never more true than when talking about the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, which this year has brought 11 mid-career professionals from 11 countries to UC Davis.

The university, in coordination with the International House, welcomed the 2014-15 fellows on Aug. 19. They are from China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Ghana, Guinea, Haiti, Liberia, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan and South Sudan.

The U.S. Department of State's Humphrey Fellowship Program sponsors fellows at universities across the country, for 10 months of nondegree study and professional experiences. All of this year’s fellows at UC Davis are in fields with a primary focus on agriculture and environmental science, which explains a field trip last week to see a solar project in Chico.

You can learn more from the fellows from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, during a free, public program at the International House, 10 College Park.

The fellows will tell what they expect to take home from UC Davis — knowledge they can use in their fields of interest.

The fellows completed English orientation and training through UC Davis Extension’s Center for International Education, and they have been immersing themselves in the community. They have been going to the Davis Farmers Market, and they have served as volunteers for a couple of projects: the city’s Apartment Move-Out Waste Reduction Program and the Putah Creek cleanup.

More information is available on the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program’s website or by contacting Nikki Grey Rutamu by email. The program also has a Facebook page.
