Watch Nobel Peace prize winner’s talk online

Although the speech is now sold out, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Shirin Ebadi's presentation can be watched online through a live webcast by visiting the UC Davis home page — www.uc davis.edu — at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17.

Ebadi, an Iranian lawyer and social-justice activist who won the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize, will talk about human rights and freedom of speech at UC Davis' Mondavi Center.

Ebadi's lecture, "Human Rights, Democracy and Islam," will be in Farsi, but she will be accompanied by an English interpreter. Her talk is expected to end by 10 p.m.

"Ms. Ebadi's work on behalf of children's and women's rights, human rights and freedom of expression within Iran shows a singular dedication to building a better society despite the immense political obstacles," said UC Davis Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef.

For those who miss the event, an on-demand webcast will be available later in the week at www.news.ucdavis.edu/multimedia/default.lasso.
