VET MED FACILITY OPENS IN SAN DIEGO

Dean Bennie Osburn of the School of Veterinary Medicine addresses a "Tail-Wagging Reception" last Saturday at the grand opening of new clinical facilities for the UC Veterinary Medical Center-San Diego. More than 100 guests, including a dozen animal companions, gathered for the celebration. Area veterinarians, benefactors, university officials and former clients from as far away as Bishop toured the facilities and met with center clinicians who had treated animals for kidney or behavior problems. Center officials introduced emerging pharmacy and clinical nutrition services for Southern California clients. About 20 Davis-based guests participated via teleconference between San Diego and the School of Veterinary Medicine on the Davis campus. The School of Veterinary Medicine and UCSD established the UC Veterinary Medical Center-San Diego in 1998 as a joint venture designed to promote specialty veterinary services and enhance veterinary education and comparative medical research. The UC program occupies 4,000 square feet in the new 26,000-square-foot Veterinary Specialty Hospital of San Diego.
