USING SOCIAL MEDIA AT UC DAVIS

It is time to get social — as in “social media.”

Members of the campus community are increasingly using social media like Twitter and Facebook and other Internet innovations to share and discuss what’s happening on campus.

Faculty, staff and students — especially those who work in communications — may find helpful the tools and ideas discussed at a Feb. 5 Social Media Summit on campus. That information is available at http://commcouncil.ucdavis.edu/social_media, the Web site of the UC Davis Communications Council.

The site offers video presentations from the summit — “Advertising on Facebook,” by Paul Dorn of Campus Recreation; “A LinkedIn Community for the Graduate School of Management,” by Tim Akin of GSM; “Using Facebook to Engage Students” by Kristin Burns of Undergraduate Admissions; “Engaging Donors: the Obama Campaign Model,” by Tom Hinds of University Communications.

The event’s keynote address, “Everything is Everywhere: The Social Web,” by Internet entrepreneur Mark Otero, is included as well.

Susanne Rockwell of University Communications organized the Social Media Summit.
