Graduates and guests at UC Davis' spring commencements will hear from leaders and innovators in a variety of fields -- cancer care, administrative law, higher education, science and technology, and brewing.
Paul Igasaki, chair and chief judge of the Administrative Review Board at the U.S. Department of Labor, will speak at the first of the spring ceremonies, the School of Law commencement, at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 14, in the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. Igasaki is a 1979 graduate of the law school.
The board issues final agency decisions for the U.S. Secretary of Labor in cases arising under a wide range of worker protection laws.
The School of Law will award 17 Master of Laws and 193 Juris Doctor degrees at its ceremony.

Saturday, May 22 -- Scott Christensen, director of the UC Davis Cancer Care Network and a professor of internal medicine, hematology and oncology, will speak at the School of Medicine ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Mondavi Center.
The network links the expertise of the UC Davis Cancer Center with community cancer centers in Northern and Central California so patients can get the latest diagnostic techniques and treatment approaches close to home.
Wednesday, June 9 -- Susan Hackwood, executive director of the California Council on Science and Technology, will speak at the School of Education ceremony at 4 p.m. at the Mondavi Center.
The not-for-profit council, of which the University of California is a sustaining member, offers advice to the state government and recommends solutions to science- and technology-related policy issues.
Thursday, June 10 -- Francisco C. Rodriguez, president of MiraCosta College in Oceanside and a UC Davis alumnus, will speak at the Graduate Studies ceremony at 4 p.m. in the ARC Pavilion.
Saturday, June 12 -- Steve Newberry, president and chief executive officer of Lam Research, will address graduates of the Graduate School of Management at 10 a.m. at the Mondavi Center. Lam Research, based in Fremont, Calif., provides wafer fabrication equipment and services to the semiconductor industry.
Sunday, June 13 -- Fritz Maytag, chairman emeritus of Anchor Brewers and Distillers, will speak at both ceremonies of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The ceremonies are at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Activities and Recreation Center Pavilion.

Friday, June 11 -- College of Biological Sciences at 10 a.m. in the ARC Pavilion;
Friday, June 11 -- School of Veterinary Medicine at 10 a.m. at the Mondavi Center;
Friday, June 11 -- College of Engineering at 3 p.m. in the ARC Pavilion; and
Saturday, June 12 -- College of Letters and Science at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the ARC Pavilion.
