UPDATED: Wines and olives at Wednesday night tasting

Wednesday Night Wine Flight

Wednesday Night Wine Flights are back at the Gunrock Pub, starting Oct. 6, with Bogle Vineyards as the featured winery.

And, in a late addition, the tasting also will include UC Davis olive oils.

"Don't miss this great opportunity to try the best in olive oil while enjoying some great wine," organizers said.

The monthly wine tastings took the summer off, due to the pub’s unexpected closure for a drain renovation project.

Now, the pub (on the south side of the Silo) is open again, and Wednesday Night Wine Flights are scheduled once again the first Wednesday of every month, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $10, and reservations are not needed.

The pub and the Cal Aggie Alumni Association’s Vintage Aggies Wine Club sponsor the tastings, with each month's event having a different theme.

"We pour a flight of four wines, along with some delicious pairings, featuring regions, topics and some of today's finest winemakers, many of whom are UC Davis graduates," organizers said.

"But that's not all! We also offer terrific deals on the wines for you to take home."

The Bogle winery is in Clarksburg, in southern Yolo County, where, according to the Wednesday Night Wine Flight organizers, “the Bogle family’s years of hard work have developed into an impressive grape growing operation, as well as a nationally acclaimed winery.”

Spend An Evening with Diana Kennedy

Organizers of An Evening with Diana Kennedy, a historian of Mexican cooking, said they still had room for more people, as of today (Oct. 1).

The event, sponsored by the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science, is scheduled for 5 p.m. Oct. 28 in the RMI's Sensory Theater.

Kennedy has been an intrepid and indefatigable student of Mexican foodways for more than 50 years and has published several classic books on the subject.

Organizers of her visit to the RMI said Kennedy will lead a discusssion, and then, during a reception afterward, will sign copies of her latest book, Oacaxa al Gusto.

The price for An Evening with Diana Kennedy is $35, or $20 for Friends of the RMI, and for staff, faculty and students (with a limited number of these discounted seats available).
