MOTH-ER'S DAY — The last in a series of winter-spring weekend openings at the Bohart Museum of Entomology is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. May 8, the day before Mother’s Day, with a program titled Moth-ers Day — all about, you guessed it, moths. The museum is in 1124 Academic Surge. Admission is free.

BEES AT THE BEE — UC Davis is involved in a couple of ways in Bees at The Bee, a bee-centric art show, during Sacramento's Second Saturday festival May 8.

First, the participating artists have agreed to donate a portion of their sales to UC Davis’ Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Facility. The program also includes presentations by the Department of Entomology.

Bees at The Bee is scheduled from 3 to 8 p.m. in The Bee's courtyard, 21st and Q streets. Admission is free.

BENEFIT BARBECUE — UC Davis' Veterinary Emergency Response Team announced its first spring fundraiser, a tri-tip barbecue on May 8. The volunteer team is dedicated to improving the care of animals caught in large-scale disasters.

The barbecue is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gladys Valley Hall, following the annual Equine Medicine Club Symposium at the School of Veterinary Medicine.

The Veterinary Emergency Response Team comprises faculty members,
residents, students and staff from the School of Veterinary Medicine. Team members are trained in both large- and small-animal rescue techniques, and serving the community with education in large-animal rescue and pet disaster preparedness.

Organizers said proceeds from the barbecue will support member training in
advanced technical large-animal rescue techniques and small-animal shelter
practices. Funds also will be used to purchase additional rescue equipment
and provide community education.

The rescue team also is seeking funds to provide weekend training events
for veterinarians and their technical staff from throughout California. The
long-term goal is to provide certification programs so that veterinary
professionals completing the training certification courses will be able to
properly and safely conduct animal rescues on the national level.

Barbecue tickets: $15 for the general public, $12 for students (with identification), free for children 6 and under. Tickets may be purchased online.
