The UC Office of the President is reminding faculty, staff and students of the university’s affiliation with iJET, providing risk management service for international travel.
The reminder comes at a time when a State Department travel warning remains in effect for the northern states of Mexico.
Therefore, UCOP is asking faculty, staff and students to register with iJET if they are traveling in Mexico or if they are planning to travel to Mexico.
“As always, but especially so during times of heightened security, the university is concerned for the safety of traveling UC faculty, staff and students,” said Grace Crickette, UC’s chief risk officer.
“Based on this, the Office of the President, Risk Services, has recruited the services of an organization (iJET) that can provide worldwide assistance to our travelers for emergency situations.”
Crickette said iJET (through its Worldcue technology platform) provides real-time intelligence and travel alerts designed to keep travelers well informed throughout their foreign travel, based on their individual itineraries — via e-mails regarding political unrest, natural disasters, war activities, health warnings and the like.
She said iJET also provides services in connection with medical emergencies, and it makes emergency travel arrangements, provides safe housing and security, and — when situations become critical — rescue and extraction.
Your iJET/Worldcue travel profile is key to your receiving the pertinent information for your journey, Crickette said.
“It is therefore of utmost importance to complete your travel profile in the iJET/Worldcue database upon receipt of your ‘welcome e-mail’ and also to be well acquainted with the UC travel insurance programs.”
(As a reminder, the university’s travel insurance benefits are available at no cost to UC faculty and staff when they are traveling out of state or out of the country on official UC business, and to students in UC-sponsored and supervised off-campus activities and programs abroad. Coverage extends to spouses, domestic partners and dependents when traveling with university faculty, staff and students.)
A welcome e-mail comes from iJET/Worldcue system automatically whenever you book your travel through Connexxus (accessed through My Travel at UC Davis), when you register your out-of-state and international travel at UC Trips.
“Unfortunately, only a small percentage of UC travelers complete their online travel profiles, which contain key emergency contact information,” Crickette said. “The failure to enter this information may result in communication delays or difficulties in receiving timely help in the event of an emergency.”
