The student assistants to the chancellor are inviting the campus community to a forum, “Freedom of Expression in the University: Rights and Challenges, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (April 10).

“We share in the commitment that the University of California makes to ensuring that First Amendment rights are protected on campus, and strive to create an environment in which opposing and conflicting ideas can be fully and productively discussed,” said the student assistants: undergraduates Desiré Campusano and Nick Sidney, and graduate student Lisceth Cruz.

“It is our sincere hope to engage the UC Davis community in a conversation on how to encourage freedom of expression on a college campus in the context of civility and respect for one another.”

The student assistants said the forum panel — including Vik Amar and Alan Brownstein, law professors, and Chris McCroy of the UC Davis Civility Project — will address First Amendment concepts through generic scenarios, and will take questions. Moderators: Kevin Johnson, dean, School of Law; and Tatiana Bush, undergraduate.

The forum location is the Conference Center Ballroom at the campus’s south entry. Light refreshments will be served.
