Trophies For Tractors

Students at nine schools throughout Northern and Central California are helping to salvage vintage tractors from the junk pile and turn them into historical treasures as part of a restoration competition jointly sponsored by the UC Davis Agricultural Machinery collection and the J.I. Case Co. The competition was initiated in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Case tractor company. The anniversary will be marked by a special Case International tractor show May 30-31 at UC Davis during Bygone Farming Days, an annual campus celebration of vintage agricultural equipment. The tractors were selected from UC Davis' massive collection of old farm equipment that awaits restoration. The students, all members of Future Farmers of America, will solicit funds and assistance from their local communities in order to restore the old equipment to its original splendor. When restored, the tractors will be returned to the UC Davis collection. Participating schools are located in Atwater, Grass Valley, Oroville, Fresno, Fillmore, Woodland, Los Molinos, Arbuckle and Tracy.
