He also will serve as the faculty director of the Education Abroad Center’s Independent Programs, for students who elect to study abroad outside of the UC Education Abroad Program or UC Davis’ Summer Abroad and Quarter Abroad programs.

“Fadi’s experience with internationally-related service activities make him an excellent selection,” said Lacy, who leads University Outreach and International Programs.

Fathallah, who joined UC Davis in 1999, is a professor in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, and chair of the department’s graduate program. He is a former UC Education Abroad study center director at American University in Cairo, and served on the Academic Senate’s Committee on International Studies and Exchanges.

Fathallah assisted with the establishment of a consortium of UC Davis and four universities in the Middle East: American University (Beirut), American University (Cairo), Lebanese American University (Beirut and Byblos) and Birzeit University (Palestine). The consortium goes by the acronym BCBCB, for Beirut, Cairo, Beirut, California and Birzeit.

And he facilitated meetings for several faculty members who visited UC Davis from several consortium institutions.

Fathallah received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University in 1986, a master’s from Virginia Tech in 1988 and a doctorate from Ohio State University in 1995.
