Single-game tickets for UC Davis Aggie football 2008 went on sale at noon Aug. 5 at the campus ticket office in Freeborn Hall and on the Web at tickets.com.
The schedule comprises six games, all on Saturdays, with all but one game to be played under the lights -- the new lights, installed in May at the 1-year-old Aggie Stadium. Without lights last year, the Aggies opened play in the new stadium in the afternoon of a blistering hot day.
The Aggies' home schedule includes only one day game this year, the last game of the season: Nov. 8, the 55th annual Causeway Classic vs. Sacramento State. Kickoff time is 2 p.m.
But all other home games, in late summer and early fall when the weather is apt to be warmer, are scheduled to begin at 6 or 7 p.m.
The home opener is set for Sept. 13 against Portland State. Game time is 7 p.m., an hour later than originally scheduled. Athletics officials said they made the switch to accommodate Comcast SportsNet's presentation of the game via cable television.
The announced starting time for all other games is 6 p.m.
UC Davis is entering its second season as an official member of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision and is returning for its fifth season in the Great West Conference. It comprises the Aggies, Southern Utah, Cal Poly and two new members, North Dakota and South Dakota.
The Aggies opened practice on Aug. 6. Their first game is set for Aug. 30 at San Jose State.
Two scrimmages are scheduled -- Aug. 16 and 22, both in the evening at Aggie Stadium. All other practices will be at Howard Field, adjacent to Toomey Field. The scrimmages and practices are open to the public.
An annual preseason highlight is scheduled for Aug. 13 when the Aggies visit patients at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Sacramento.
The athletics media relations unit reported 90 players were expected for the first practice. They will try to improve on last year's 5-6 overall record.
"I'm excited because we have so much experience," said Bob Biggs, in his 16th year as head coach. Forty-six letter-winners were due back. They include 19 starters: 10 on offense, six on defense, plus three specialists.
The Aggies' schedule comprises 12 games, half on the road and half at home. The home schedule presents a game every Saturday in October, plus the home opener in September and the Causeway Classic in November.
