The Department of Theatre and Dance and the Department of Music announced a joint production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! as a special event in May 2009 during the UC Davis Centennial.

Five performances are scheduled in Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, with music by the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Moschler, master of arts candidate in conducting.

Oklahoma! -- a simple tale of cowhands and farmers finding love and community in the Oklahoma territory -- opened on Broadway in 1943 and ran for a then-unprecedented 2,212 performances, later enjoying revivals, national tours and an Academy Award-winning 1955 film adaptation. Rodgers and Hammerstein received a Pulitzer Prize for Oklahoma! in 1944.

Performance times and dates: 8 p.m. Saturday, May 2, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3; 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, May 8-9; and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 10.

Tickets: In advance, $12-$28, with discount prices of $8-$16 for the May 3 matinee; prices at the door slightly higher. Advance tickets available through the Mondavi Center box office, (530) 754-2787 or (866) 754-2787, or www.mondaviarts.org.
