Some people among the 5,000 or so who attended the Thank Goodness for Staff Picnic on May 12 came away with more than a free meal.

Here are the names of some of the prize winners, followed by the names of the recipients of Distinguished Citations for Excellence, and staff scholarships and staff dependant scholarships:

TGFS Idol — Erica Ballinger, grants manager, Department of Statistics, first place; and Josie Vanta, administrative assistant, Materiel Management Office, second place.

Guess the Weight — Derek Fraley, an electrician in Facilities Management, came closest to guessing the weight of everything in a photo that comprised a campus firetruck plus 16 people and Sparky the Fire Dog standing beside the truck, or sitting inside or on top.

Fraley guessed 65,000 pounds, just 90 pounds off of the actual weight of 65,090 pounds. He won a trip for two to Disneyland or Sea World, including two adult amusement park passes and a two-night hotel stay.

Gunrock Bingo — Gunrock jumped on space G6, making Stacy Miller the winner. Miller, executive assistant in the office of the vice chancellor of Student Affairs, received a trip for two to Disneyland or Sea World.

Logo Contest (for the 2011 TGFS logo) — Jeanne Hart, undergraduate program coordinator for several disciplines: German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and film studies. As logo contest winner, she receives $50 and one of next year's T-shirts — with her logo on it, of course. See photo slide show for the logo.
