Where does UC Davis rank among the nation's college campuses when it comes to championing an integrated, sustainable approach to planning and purchasing, teaching and research?

Campus Sustainability Day, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 25, might shed some light on that question. The day will feature a national webcast of presenters offering case studies from four colleges and universities that have made strides integrating sustainability across their respective campuses.

The campus also will host a Sustainable Products Vendor Fair, and the UC Davis Sustainability Advisory Committee will unveil a new campus sustainability Web site.

Campus Sustainability Day celebrates sustainability in higher education through events that draw participants for the exchange of ideas and knowledge among faculty, staff and students.

The national webcast, titled "Where is Your Campus on the Continuum of Integrated Sustainability Planning?" is hosted by the Society for College and University Planning.

The presentation will feature an in-depth exploration of a range of institutions to see where they stand in integrating sustainability through operations, purchasing, policy, resource planning, teaching and research. The four featured campuses include: Arizona State University; Grand Valley State University (Mich.), Harvard University and Pima Community College (Ariz.).

Contracting Services is sponsoring the Sustainable Products Vendor Fair, which will focus on environmentally preferable products and programs. Exhibitors will be showcasing sustainable, environmentally preferable products.

The fair will feature office equipment and supplies; fair trade/organic foods; laboratory supplies; janitorial/cleaning supplies; carpet/furniture; and UC Davis reuse/recycling programs.
