Sunrise Ceremony Begins Native American Culture Days

Native American culture is celebrated through ceremonies, demonstrations and panels.

April 11 to 16, Monday to Saturday -- Native American culture will be celebrated during the Native American Culture Days at UC Davis. To begin the week, a local elder will lead a sunrise ceremony at 5:30 a.m. on the West Quad, and a blessing ceremony will be held at the Carl Gorman Museum in Hart Hall at noon Monday. Other activities include a panel discussion about the native presence at UC Davis, a demonstration of traditional food and medicine, and artistic performances Wednesday; an indigenous film showcase Thursday; a discussion of native women in higher education Friday; and, as part of Picnic Day on Saturday, native storytelling, music and dance performances, and an art exhibit.
