State director to address public health symposium

A keynote address on "Health Equity in California" is scheduled for Thursday, April 5, when UC Davis observes National Public Health Week.

The talk by Ron Chapman, state health officer and director of the state Department of Public Health, is part of an evening symposium, free and open to the public. The program includes a question-and-answer session after Chapman's talk.

The symposium, sponsored by the Department of Public Health Sciences, is scheduled from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in 180 Medical Sciences 1C in the Health Sciences District on the Davis campus.

The program starts with a welcome by Ellen Gold, chair and professor, Department of Public Health Sciences; and an address by Professor Thomas Nesbitt, associate vice chancellor for administration, School of Medicine, on "Public Health at UC Davis."

Other program highlights: Master of Public Health update, introduction of M.P.H. alumni and M.P.H. alumni presentations.

Directions: Turn south on Health Sciences Drive, off Hutchison Drive between Highway 113 and La Rue Road. Continue south on Health Sciences Drive until it ends in Lot 56 (between Aggie Stadium and Medical Sciences 1C).
