UC Davis is getting good use of its performance spaces:

• Spring Awakening wraps up this weekend at the Wyatt Pavilion Theatre and The Vagina Monologues takes the stage there next week.
• Body of Knowledge opens tonight (Feb. 18) in the Vanderhoef Studio Theatre.
• Béla Bartók’s opera, Bluebeard's Castle, fully staged, comes to Jackson Hall  Feb. 25 and 27.

Spring Awakening — The original play, not the musical, presented by Studio 301 Productions, a student-run troupe. Spring Awakening centers on German teens who are dealing with their sexuality and curiosities. Continues at 8 p.m. today-Saturday, Feb. 18-19, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20. Talk-backs after the Feb. 19 and 20 shows, with the audience invited to discuss the play and its themes with the director and actors, and speakers from various academic departments. Tickets: $8 students and $10 general, available at the ticket office at Freeborn Hall. Advisory: Not entirely suited for young children, due to the controversial issues that are dealt with. Body of Knowledge — Directed and choreographed by Karl Frost, a graduating Master of Fine Arts candidate. Presented by the Department of Theatre and Dance, which describes Body of Knowledge as an interactive work that juxtaposes scientific knowledge with the emotions that people feel in response to what they know, see and experience physically. Audience participation invited. Opens at 8 p.m. today, Feb. 18, and continues at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19; 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20; 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 24-26; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27. The Vagina Monologues — Presented by the 2011 Vagina Warriors of UC Davis. The organizers said proceeds will go to the Imani Clinic (run by UC Davis medical students) and My Sister's House (a Sacramento-based organization that works to eliminate domestic violence in the Asian and Pacific Islander community), as well as the 2011 V-Day "spotlight campaign" on women and girls of Haiti. 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26. Tickets: $10, available at the Women’s Research and Resources Center, 113 North Hall. The organizers said lower-cost tickets are available for people in need — just ask. Earlier coverage.

Bluebeard's Castle — Fully staged, with the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, led by Christian Baldini, providing the music, and the Department of Theatre and Dance handling the set, lighting, costumes and direction. 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, and 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27. See separate story.
