SONS AND DAUGHTERS AT WORK

Four-year-old Patrick Zimmermann, on the front, gets help from UC Davis firefighter Nicole Vlahos as he uses a firehose during Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on April 26. Zimmerman’s father, Matthew Zimmermann, is a doctoral student in ecology. Rebecca St. Cyr, on the inside, 9, daughter of Bike Barn general manager Robert St. Cyr, fixes a flat tire in front of the shop. As part of the day’s activities, the university offered a full program of educational experiences—children visited art exhibits, the entomology museum, chemistry and food science labs, the Dairy Barn and Hickey Gym, among other places on campus. Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is a nationwide event that began in 2003 with the goal of exposing children to what their parents and other adults do during the workday.
