Registration is open for two 5-kilometer run-walks on the Davis campus:

The third annual Stride for Aggie Pride, organized by students and staff for the betterment of and student life. Proceeds go to the ASUCD Endowment Fund for student scholarships; and We Are Aggie Pride, a student-run organization that provides emergency funding to students to cover food, rent and other essential costs.

The first event, in 2013, drew more than 1,700 people and raised $17,500. Last year's run drew nearly 3,000 participants and raised more than $25,000.

Open to everyone connected to UC Davis, including community members. The event aims to promote a healthy lifestyle, with a specific focus on student holistic health to promote being mentally and physically fit. Davis businesses and campus department will support the cause by setting up booths and presenting hands-on activities.

  • When and where — Sunday, April 26. Starting time 9 a.m.; the course starts and ends on the Quad.
  • Registration — Youth (12 and under), $5; student (12 and older), $7; and nonstudent, $20. Prices go up after April 8. Register online.

The first Genius Run/Walk will raise funds for summer scholarships for undergraduate research. Co-sponsored by the Undergraduate Research Center and the Society of Women Engineers.

The event website declares, “Celebrate your creative genius and support undergraduate research!” — encouraging participants to come as their favorite geniuses, or to create costumes to show off individual creativity!

Here's another idea: Organize your friends to set a record for the most runners linked to complete a 5K (the record is 116).

The organizers said they'll ask people to join in creating a “pointillist finger painting” at the finish line, and the finished work will hang in the Undergraduate Research Center.

The event also includes a creativity fair featuring student clubs and other organizations presenting displays or activities.

Open to the public; all ages welcome.

  • When and where — Sunday, May 3. Starting time 9:30 a.m.; the course starts and ends on the Quad.
  • Registration — $30 adult and $10 children, through April 11. Prices go up after that date. Register online.
