Shake a leg, walk with other Aggies

Aggies On the Move announced a Winter Walk-About, including a motivational talk and a group walk, scheduled around the noon hour on Jan. 17. The campus community is invited to participate.

Aggies On the Move started with the 2006-07 academic year. Registration is ongoing, and can be accomplished at the Winter Walk-About or any time at the Wellness Center in the Activities and Recreation Center.

Registered participants can contact Aggies On the Move organizers to find walking partners. Also, registered participants are asked to log the number of miles they walk, and prizes are being awarded.

To measure how far they walk, participants are invited to buy kits with pedometers and logbooks. The price is $5 for faculty, staff and students, or $12 for family and friends.

The Winter Walk-About is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration on the main floor of the ARC Pavilion through 1:15 p.m. Organizers said Karey Zufelt, a physician and motivational speaker, will talk about walking shoes, intensity levels and gait — with all the information designed to help people get the most out of their walking. The Winter Walk-About program also includes a vendors fair; the participants list includes Fleet Feet, Nike, New Balance, Superfeet and Clif Bar.

Aggies On the Move orientations are scheduled at 11:45 a.m., noon, and 12:15 and 12:30 p.m., and Zufelt's talk from noon to 12:30.

A 1.5-mile group walk with Provost Virginia Hinshaw is scheduled from 12:30 to 1; the walk will be indoors, on the pavilion track, in the event of rain.

Aggies On the Move is a collaboration of Campus Recreation, Em-ployee Health Services, Staff Work-Life, the Cowell Student Health Center and the arborteum.
