Service for South Korean Student Set for Aug. 26

The campus will hold a memorial service on Friday, Aug. 26, for a former UC Davis Extension student from South Korea who was found dead Aug. 6 in Yosemite National Park.

The service for Hyun Do Ahn, who had participated in a year-long program on campus, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in Putah Creek Lodge on campus. Everyone is welcome.

Ahn was one of 52 Korea University students who had taken campus courses as part of the UC Davis/Korea University Study Abroad Program to improve English language and other academic skills. The students took classes beginning in fall 2004, and Ahn completed his coursework in mid-June.

Ahn set off to hike in Yosemite National Park before visiting friends in various cities. He was reported missing after he did not use his reservation for a return flight to South Korea July 21.

Ahn died of multiple blunt force injuries that were accidental in nature, according to the Mariposa County coroner's office.

The National Park Service reported that park employees found the 25-year-old's body in Tenaya Canyon, and it appears that he had fallen.

The family held a private service at a Fresno funeral home Aug. 11.
