SEMINARS AND COLLOQUIA: Vanderhoef lecture at I-House; Engineering alum returns

Vanderhoef lecture at I-House

The International House announced its new Vanderhoef International Lecture Series, with one talk annually — with the series’ namesake, Chancellor Emeritus Larry Vanderhoef, as the first speaker. His talk, free and open to the public, is scheduled for Nov. 16. A reception is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. and the talk at 7 at I-House, 10 College Park, Davis. Vanderhoef’s topic is “ ‘It Changed My Life!’ — University of Illinois Student, 1975” — based on a comment that Vanderhoef recalls from his time on the Illinois faculty, from 1970 to 1980.

Engineering alum to give lecture

The College of Engineering announced a Nov. 16 talk by alumnus Francis Lee in the Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series.

Lee, a 1974 graduate, is chairman of the board of Synaptics, a Santa Clara-based designer of user-interface hardware for PCs and other electronic devices. Forbes magazine recently ranked Synaptics 13th among America’s top 20 small publicly traded companies.

Lee's talk is scheduled from 4:10 to 5 p.m. in Giedt Hall, with a reception to follow in the Bruce and Marie West Lobby of Kemper Hall.
