SEMINARS AND COLLOQUIA: German philosopher’s visit includes ‘late’ public event; ADHD topic at 2 MIND talks

GERMAN PHILOSOPHER'S VISIT INCLUDES 'LATE' PUBLIC EVENT: German philosopher, critic and cultural theorist Alexander García Düttmann, from Goldsmiths College, University of London, is scheduled to present a three-day seminar and a public lecture at UC Davis next week.

The seminar for students and faculty is titled "Four Readings of Kant's Critique of Judgment: Heidegger, Adorno, Derrida, Cavell."

Sessions are planned daily in 912 Sproul Hall, with the times to be announced.

The public lecture, "Come and Go: On the Very Concept of Late Style," is set for 5:30 p.m. Feb. 14 in 126 Voorhies Hall.

The Düttmann programs are being organized by German and Russian professor Gerhard Richter and hosted by the Department of German. Co-sponsors include the Davis Humanities Institute, and the Center for History, Society and Culture.

ADHD TOPIC AT 2 MIND TALKS: The MIND Institute's Distinguished Lecturer Series continues next week with talks by Russell Barkley on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD.

Barkley is a clinical professor of psychiatry, Medical University of South Carolina, and research professor of psychiatry, State University of New York Upstate Medical School, Syracuse, N.Y.

Each speaker in the Distinguished Lecturer Series gives two talks, one a technical presentation and the other general-interest. Barkley's talks are scheduled for Feb. 13; here are the times and topics:

-- 4 p.m., technical presentation -- "Life Course Impact and Mental Health Outcomes of Children With ADHD."

-- 6 p.m., general-interest presentation -- "ADHD: Advances in Diagnosis, Understanding."

Both are free and open to the public in the auditorium at the MIND Institute, 2825 50th St., Sacramento.
