The university is inviting applications for the position of vice chancellor for student affairs. On Jan. 1, the former vice chancellor, Judy Sakaki, joined the Office of the President as vice president for Student Affairs. Janet Gong has been named interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs.
The vice chancellor for student affairs is responsible for initiating, developing, and maintaining programs and services that support students in their academic pursuits, provide stewardship of the campus climate, and promote leadership, teamwork and social responsibility. The Division of Student Affairs oversees enrollment services; academic support services; student housing; student health; counseling center; intercollegiate athletics as well as intramural and club sports programs; student life and campus community; campus unions, campus recreation and campus bookstores.
Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef is chairing the Recruitment Advisory Commiteee conducting the search. Others on the commitee are Virginia Hinshaw, provost and executive vice chancellor; Rosario Cortes, senior policy consultant and Cal Aggie Alumni Association board member; Thomas Famula, vice chair and professor of animal science; Ross Flowers, psychologist in Counseling and Psychological Services; Emily Galindo, associate director for Student Housing; Jacquelyn Gervay-Hague, professor of chemistry; Darnell Holloway, student, and pending ASUCD president; Alessa Johns, associate professor in English; Ellen Lange, lecturer in linguistics; Enrique Lavernia, dean of the College of Engineering; Neelima Sinha, professor in plant science; Kara Thompson, graduate student in English; and Frank Wada, the university registrar.
