'From Science to Storytelling: Effective Communication for Policy Change'

Research findings are one thing, getting policy makers to pay attention is another — which is why the California Climate and Agriculture Network, or CalCAN, is presenting a workshop on the Davis campus, to help researchers with their communication skills.

“From Science to Storytelling: Effective Communication for Policy Change” is for academic researchers working on climate change and agriculture. Each registered participant may also invite a graduate student.

“If you are motivated in part by applying your research to environmental and social issues such as climate change, this workshop will give you some useful concepts and tools,” the organizers said. “The workshop will focus on simplifying your messages and honing your presentations.

“Using discussion, role plays, expert advice from media consultants and individual exercises, we will explore the challenges of translating your scientific findings to policymakers and advocates.”

The free workshop is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, March 24, in the Big Hanna Room, Asmundson Hall. Register by sending an email to CalCAN’s Renata Brillinger, with your name, department and phone number, and, if you are bringing a graduate student, include his or her information as well. Space is limited.
