Frank Wada, most recently director of registrar services at San José State University, has assumed responsibilities as university registrar at UC Davis.

He replaces Jack Farrell, who resigned last fall to take a position at California State University, Long Beach.

Lora Jo Bossio, director of financial aid since 2001 and interim registrar since October, will be assisting Leon Washington, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs: enrollment and academic support services, with a business plan for the deployment of the Electronic Document Management System, the upgrading of Degree Navigator, and other special projects until she returns to the Office of Financial Aid July 1.

Katy Maloney, associate director of financial aid since 2001, will continue as interim director of financial aid through June 30.

On March 11, Wada began overseeing 38 FTE employees in the Office of the University Registrar, which is responsible for student records, enrollment, and the publication of the General Catalog and Class Schedule and Registration Guide.

At San José State since December 2000, Wada led registrar services for about 30,000 students with a team of two managers, 40 professional staff and 12 student assistants. He also had responsibility for determining student eligibility for Division I competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Before joining the state university, Wada held a series of positions at the Bay Area's Menlo College beginning in 1998. They included assistant director of the Frosh Experience and resident director, director of the First Year Experience and institutional research, and lastly, registrar and director of institutional research.

He also worked as coordinator of student interns to the president at San José State and staff assistant for the division of academic affairs in the chancellor's office at California State University.

Wada holds a bachelor's degree in biological science and sociology from San José State and a master's in higher education and organizational change from UCLA.
