-- Two Division of Education professors, Richard Figueroa and Patricia Gandara, have submitted papers commissioned by the National Research Council, the working arm of the National Academy of Sciences. Gandara's paper is titled "Interventions for Excellence, What We Know About Nurturing High Achievement in Underrepresented Students." Figueroa's topic is "The Role of Limited English Proficiency in Special Education Identification and Intervention." The two professors were selected for their expertise in these issues as part of a study Congress required of the National Academy of Sciences in 1997 to reauthorize legislation governing education of individuals with disabilities.
