Qualcomm CEO Speaks on 3-G Wireless

May 6, Thursday -- Irwin M. Jacobs, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Qualcomm Inc., will speak on "Third Generation Wireless -- Technology, Impact and Politics" at 4:10 p.m. in room 1065 Kemper Hall on the UC Davis campus. Jacobs will present an overview of worldwide developments in wireless communications based on the cellular third-generation standards. He will outline the new services and applications made possible by this technology and how they could affect work, leisure and daily life. Jacobs pioneered the commercialization of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology for cell phones and wireless data communications. He has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University, master's and doctor of science degrees from MIT and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. His talk is part of the Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series in the College of Engineering and will be followed by a reception in 1003 Kemper Hall.
