PULITZER PRIZE FINALIST: ORPHEUS X

Granada Artist-in-Residence Rinde Eckert's Orpheus X, his 2007 Pulitzer Prize finalist for drama, is set to be performed at 8 p.m. Feb. 16 in UC Davis' Main Theatre.

The play, being produced here as a special presentation of the American Repertory Theatre, is a riff on the ancient myth in which the poet Orpheus risks death to rescue Eurydice from the underworld. But when he looks back, he loses her forever.

In this version, with text and music by Eckert, Orpheus is a rock singer who locks himself in his recording studio and dreams of rescuing the poet Eurydice from the underworld.

The cast comprises Eckert, Suzan Hanson (both pictured here) and John Kelly.

The UC Davis presentation is in preparation for the play's production at the Hong Kong International Festival.

All tickets are $5, and are available through the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts box office: (530) 754-2787 or (866) 754-2787, or www.mondaviarts.org.
