Provost seeks input on establishment of global centers

Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter is requesting comments on a draft white paper that provides background information and poses questions regarding the establishment of one or more UC Davis Global Centers.

Prepared by the office of the vice provost for University Outreach and International Programs, the white paper provides a brief survey of the type and purpose of such centers as implemented by other universities. It also poses a number of questions relating to the goals and objectives of such centers.

The concept of establishing one or more UC Davis Global Centers is an elaboration of a recommendation of the International Advisory Committee, charged by the provost to analyze and make recommendations about issues relating to internationalizing the campus. The committee’s report is here.

“Global centers are envisioned to provide a physical presence for UC Davis in strategic international locations to enable extension of campus activities throughout the world,” Hexter said.

"I am interested in hearing from the campus community about the types of activities that such centers should support and locations for further detailed explorations.”

Comments and suggestions on the white paper should be submitted via email to provost@ucdavis.edu by April 30.
