Provost forums open to campus

Come out and meet your next UC Davis provost. Faculty and staff members of the campus community are invited to attend upcoming forums and get to know a little about the people interviewing for the position of provost and executive vice chancellor at UC Davis. As the the chief academic officer of the campus, the provost is responsible for the campus budget of more than $2.6 billion. among other duties.

Each of the four forums will consist of a brief presentation on the nature of the public research university, question-and-answer sessions, and a reception afterwards. Following are the dates and locations of the forums:

  • Pramod P. Khargonekar — dean of the College of Engineering, Eckis Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Florida. Khargonekar's forum is set for 4:10-5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in the Club Room in the University Club.
  • Meredith Hay — vice president for research, professor of molecular physiology and biophysics, and psychology, University of Iowa. Hay's forum is set for 4:10-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, in the Club Room in the University Club.
  • Andrew B. Wachtel — dean of the Graduate School, Bertha and Max Dressler Professor in the Humanities, Northwestern University. Wachtel's forum is set for 4:10-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the Club Room in the University Club.
  • Mriganka Sur — head of the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Sherman Fairchild Professor of Neuroscience, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Sur's forum is set for 4:10-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the Lounge of the University Club.

Faculty and staff can submit confidential comments on the candidates by e-mailing Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef at lnvanderhoef@ucdavis.edu. All comments need to be submitted by the end of the work day on Feb. 22.
