IN THE NATURAL RESERVE SYSTEM

Openings were still available as of May 23 for two adventures in the UC Natural Reserve System:

NATURE OUTINGS

Overnight at a Reserve -- June 14-15 at Sagehen Creek Field Station, part of the UC Natural Reserve System. The Sagehen Creek Field Station, near Truckee in the Sierra Nevada, is described as "a spectacular area of high-altitude wetlands and forests." The program includes an introduction to the reserve, a natural history presentation, a discussion of healthy forests, and hiking. Participants are responsible for all travel and food. Sleeping accommodations (for Saturday only) have been made at the reserve for a $10-$20 fee. E-mail Falyn at jfalyn@ucdavis.edu with questions.

Loop Trail: Summer Solstice at Sunrise -- 5:30 a.m. June 21. Hike the Loop Trail as the sun climbs into the sky after the shortest night of the year. Five miles of ups and downs with a 1,200-foot elevation gain. Many steps are interspersed with breathtaking views. Bring sturdy shoes, at least a liter of water, sunscreen and a snack. Free.

All activities are open to the public. Activities fill up fast; reservations are required. E-mail Jeff Falyn, jfalyn@ucdavis.edu, with your name, address, event date, and phone number and-or e-mail address, and indicate whether you need directions.
