Tour—Simple Secrets for Great Container Gardening. 11 a.m. Jan. 31, Arboretum Terrace Garden, Davis Commons shopping center, First and A streets. Free parking behind the shopping center.

Tour—Finding Beauty in the Dead of Winter. 11 a.m. Feb. 7, Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center. Free parking in Lot 1 and the south entry garage, south of the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

Walk With Warren—With Warren Roberts, arboretum superintendent. Noon Feb. 11, Arboretum Terrace Garden, Arboretum Terrace Garden, Davis Commons shopping center, First and A streets. Free parking behind the shopping center.

Valentine’s Day Sonnet Walk—Listen to readings of Shakespeare’s poetry as you visit various places in the arboretum and in Davis. Theater professor Peter Lichtenfels is directing the event, which is being presented by the arboretum in collaboration with the Department of Theatre and Dance and the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. Feb. 14, time and meeting place to be announced.

Tour—Winter Color in the Storer Garden. 11 a.m. Feb. 14, gazebo, Garrod Drive. Free parking along Garrod Drive and in Lot 55.

Workshop—Native Californian Elderberry Flute-Making, with docent Antonio Flores of the East Bay Regional Park District. This program is open to all ages; adults are asked to accompany and supervise their young children. Instruction in making and playing flutes, plus a talk about the culture of flute-making and about the endangered elderberry beetle. All materials will be supplied; participants are asked to bring sharpened pocketknives. 1-3 p.m. Feb. 22, 146 Environmental Horticulture, Old Davis Road. Limited free parking at the Environmental Horticulture complex; more free parking in Lot 5, Old Davis Road and A Street.

Tour—Birding in Your Own Back Yard. 2 p.m. Feb. 22, arboretum headquarters, La Rue Road near California Avenue.

Tour—Beat the Winter Blahs in the Garden. 11 a.m. Feb. 28, gazebo, Garrod Drive. Free parking along Garrod Drive and in Lot 55.
