Folk Music Jam Sessions — Pull out your fiddles, guitars, mandolins, penny whistles, pipes, flutes, squeezeboxes — you name it! — and join your fellow musicians during the lunch hour for a little bluegrass, old-time, blues, Celtic, klezmer and other world music. Plant sale preview — See examples of garden plants that will be available a week later at the first plant sale of the spring season. Preview, 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, Arboretum Teaching Nursery.

Storytime Through the Seasons: Expedition to Africa — African stories and nature will be highlighted in this reading program for all ages. 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 6, Acacia Grove (meeting place: arboretum headquarters). In the event of rain, the program will move to 146 Environmental Horticulture.

Walk with Warren — Tour the collection with master plantsman Warren Roberts, the retired arboretum superintendent. Noon Wednesday, March 9, arboretum headquarters.

Plant sale, members only — Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Friends of the UC Davis Arboretum, which run the arboretum plant sales. The first sale of the spring season is always for members only — and they receive a 10 percent discount on purchases. Nonmembers are welcome to join at the gate, and thus receive the member discount as well as a free plant. The spring selection will include Arboretum All-Stars and other great plants for Central Valley gardens. With music, refreshments and children’s activities, and free, expert gardening advice. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 12, Arboretum Teaching Nursery.

Spring in the Native Plant Garden — Learn about local native plants and see the native plant collection in full bloom. 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center.

Plant sale preview — See garden plants that will be available at spring plant sales April 2 and 30, and May 14. Preview, 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, Arboretum Teaching Nursery

Spring in the Storer Garden — Gorgeous spring bloom in this demonstration garden of drought-tolerant, low-maintenance perennials and flowering shrubs. Many of these plants will be for sale at the spring plant sales. 11 a.m. Sunday, March 27, gazebo.
