Online and Hybrid Learning Showcase: Oct. 12

The term “lecture course” doesn’t always tell the whole story anymore. We have courses comprised entirely of face-to-face lectures, we have courses in which all of the lectures are online, and we have hybrids.

And soon we will have an Online and Hybrid Learning Showcase where you can learn more about the options. The showcase is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in MU II at the Memorial Union.

Rosemary Capps, assistant director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, said the showcase will celebrate the work of innovative faculty who designed or taught online and hybrid courses for the first time during the 2011-12 academic year.

The showcase also will provide a venue to see recent developments in online and hybrid learning and to discuss the future of online learning at UC Davis. Light refreshments will be served.

Co-sponsors with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning are the Office of Undergraduate Education, the College of Engineering, UC Davis Extension, and Academic Technology Services.

The showcase is open to the entire campus community (RSVPs requested), while two related workshops are for faculty and teaching assistants (space is limited):

Beyond Design — Tips for Teaching in Hybrid and Online Classes — Practical tips on specific challenges and opportunities that faculty may encounter starting the first day of teaching online. 12:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, Meeting Room D, Student Community Center.

Online Tool Intensives Hands-on training in Adobe Connect, Etherpad, VoiceThread, Piazza and CoLE (the next generation of SmartSite). Come for specific sessions or stay for all five. 1-4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2060 Sciences Lab.

Capps is asking for RSVPs for the showcase and the workshops. Contact her by e-mail, rcapps@ucdavis.edu
