The Bicycle Program is having a garage sale — with nothing but bikes, more than 400 of them: cruisers, mountain, road, BMX, even some children’s bikes.

The bikes, for the most part, ended up with the Bicycle Program after being abandoned on campus and not claimed. Auctions are held twice a year, in the fall and spring, in the west entry parking garage off Hutchison Drive just east of La Rue Road. Admission is free and open to the public.

The fall sale is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8, with viewing of the bikes from 8 to 9 a.m. and the sale from 9 a.m. until all bikes are put up for bid, probably around 2 p.m.

David Takemoto-Weerts, Bicycle Program coordinator, described most of the bikes as fixer-uppers, and said he expects most will sell for $30 to $40, with the possibility that some will sell for as little as $2. The Bicycle Program accepts payment by cash, check or major credit card.

If you are driving to the auction, Transportation and Parking Services, or TAPS, suggests parking for free in Lots 40 and 41 off Hutchison Drive.

TAPS will be charging $7 to use the garage, in connection with other big events on campus that day: the Mapping Your Path to Medicine conference, for people interested in careers in medicine and public health; and the Aggie football game (6 p.m. kickoff).
