Not Your Garden-Variety Project

Professor of environmental design Dolph Gotelli, center, and students from his Design 100 class contemplate a configuration of shoes outside of Walker Hall last week. The assignment, called "Fantasy Garden," was to creatively design a garden personal to each individual group inside a 10-foot-by-10-foot space. Each group of 10 or 12 students tried to be as original as possible, which led to some interesting projects, including this crop circle-esque pattern. "Each group brought their own items, and this group chose shoes," Gotelli said. Other groups made use of everything from tomatoes to bed sheets to surgical gloves in creating their own unique gardens. Next up for Gotelli's students: design an original alien. The aliens will be landing on the Mrak lawn May 8. (Debbie Aldridge/Mediaworks)
