Stan Nosek, interim vice chancellor for administration at the University of California, Davis, for the past two years, has been named permanently to the post after an extensive national search.

Over nearly three decades of service to UC Davis, Nosek has held positions of increasing responsibility in areas that have included student housing, human resources and business management. Serving as vice chancellor for administration since February 2003, he has led one of the most complex and diverse organizations at UC Davis, with more than 1,400 employees, a $167 million operating budget, and units ranging from public safety to accounting and financial services.

"Repeatedly throughout his long career at UC Davis, Stan has demonstrated exceptional management ability in many of the areas where he now has responsibility," said UC Davis Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef. "He displayed his hallmark leadership when he moved into one of the most complex jobs on campus two years ago, and quickly demonstrated ingenuity in guiding virtually all of the infrastructure required to operate the campus. And he did it all with gold-standard integrity and a great sense of humor."

Nosek's broad portfolio includes human resources, employee health, accounting, facilities, architects and engineers, campus events, fire, police, parking and transportation, materiel management, reprographics, mail, agricultural services, risk management, mediation services, business contracts, animal care and environmental health and safety.

Vanderhoef noted in particular Nosek's efforts in overseeing several reorganizations that have improved the service and efficiency of many administrative operations, including contracting, accounting and animal care.

Nosek succeeds Janet Hamilton, who retired in early 2003.

"It's a privilege to continue to serve the campus in this position. The many talented staff members who make up the Office of Administration are dedicated to providing high-quality service that advances our academic mission. I'm proud to be part of their team," Nosek said. "I look forward to working with the campus academic and executive leadership to do our very best to deliver the breadth of business, operational, infrastructure and safety services that help make UC Davis a world-class university. We have an incredible faculty and outstanding students at UC Davis, and it's an honor to support their success."

Nosek came to UC Davis in 1976, first serving as assistant director of residence life, then as assistant business manager of student housing, and director of the Campus Events and Information Office before joining the Office of Administration.

Nosek has spent the past 13 years within the Office of Administration as the interim vice chancellor, associate vice chancellor for business services, executive assistant to the vice chancellor, executive director of human resources, executive director of facilities, information practices coordinator, director of event management and administrative services and assistant vice chancellor for administration.

He received a bachelor of science degree in psychology/mathematics from the State University College at Oneonta, N.Y., in 1969, and a master's degree in student personnel from the State University of New York at Albany in 1970.
