A grand reopening is set for Monday, March 31, at UC Davis Stores’ TechHub, now featuring a brand-new look in a brand-new and larger space at the Memorial Union. The celebration, including giveaways, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The computer and electronics store recently moved out of the main bookstore and into the old MU Station Computer Lab (on the MU’s east side). The TechHub has been operating in the renovated space for about two weeks.
“The sleek, modern design of the new space complements the cutting-edge electronics on the shelves and makes it even easier to find exactly what you’re looking for,” a news release states.
Representatives from some of the TechHub’s most popular brands, including Apple, Dell and HP, are due to be on hand for the grand reopening.
“Stop by (to) chat with the brand reps, enter to win big prizes (including an iPad and an Android tablet), and browse the store to find great deals on computers, electronics and accessories,” the new release states. “Then keep checking back during the rest of the week for special daily deals.”
A win for UC Davis and its children's hospital
Talk about good sportsmanship: Despite losing a “friendly” game against the Aggie men’s soccer team last Sunday, Sacramento Republic FC is donating 10 percent of season ticket revenue this month to UC Davis Children’s Hospital, for purchases made through this link (use promo code “ucdhospital”).
The hospital is the presenting partner for the professional soccer club’s inaugural season, which kicks off April 26.
In the March 16 friendly, a sellout crowd of about 1,200 saw the Aggie men defeat Sac Republic 1-0 on the Aggie Soccer Field. Sam Hoeck scored the lone goal on a header with just under 25 minutes to play.
Vacancy rates 1.9% for units, 3.5% for beds
UC Davis’ newest apartment vacancy survey adds a new data point, for unrented beds within apartment units rented out by the bed. The survey, conducted last fall, found a 3.5 percent vacancy rate in these beds, and a 1.9 percent vacancy rate in apartments rented as single units.
The university commissioned the survey of the Davis community, to assist planning efforts on the campus and in the city.
The survey is now switching to an every-other-year schedule, after 38 years as an annual undertaking.
