Mail Services’ eighth annual Holiday Food Drive continues through Friday, Nov. 15, and donating could not be easier: Gather your donations and put them in or near your outgoing campus mail bin in your department or unit — and Mail Services personnel will do the rest.

Davis campus donations go to the Food Bank of Yolo County, Sacramento campus donations to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services.

Outdoor Adventures takes a trip of its own

Outdoor Adventures has a new home, the Rec Pool Lodge. The Walter A. Buehler building has a new name. And the King Hall coffee hut has reopened in a new plaza. See slideshow at right.

The 40-year-old Outdoor Adventures, a division of Campus Recreation and Unions, recently moved out of a building that it shared with the Bike Barn in the Silo complex. The Bike Barn will expand into the old OA space.

With the move, Outdoor Adventures gets extra room for program growth to accommodate the campus’s growing enrollment, a big front lawn for slack lining and other recreation, and a parking lot — offering convenience for people driving in to pick up or drop off equipment.

The extra room isn’t in the lodge (it’s smaller than OA’s old space), but in a free-standing warehouse to be built on the north side of the lodge, for rafts and kayaks, and climbing and camping gear. (For now, it’s being stored in containers.)

Jordy Magrid, assistant director of Campus Rec and Unions, who heads Outdoor Adventures, said the new location “will allow us to better accommodate the needs of the community while maintaining our comfortable and welcoming environment.”

Caterer & Vendor Showcase: Nov. 14

Event planners around the campus are invited to the 17th annual Caterer & Vendor Showcase, presented by Conference and Event Services.

The last showcase featured 60 exhibitors and drew more than 300 event planners.

This year’s event is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in Freeborn Hall. Registration is complimentary for event planners; however, advance signups are requested for planning purposes.

Years and years (and years) of campus service

At its 74th annual meeting this month, the Quarter Century Club will initiate 249 new members (25 years of employment at UC Davis) and honor 65 current members who have reached the 50-year mark.

That’s nearly 9,500 years of dedication to UC Davis, a number as remarkable as the individuals who collectively have achieved it. The new 25-year members came on board from July 1, 1987, to June 30, 1988.

The QCC is for all employees regardless of classification — staff, faculty and administrators, on the Davis and Sacramento campuses — who are identified by Human Resources as having been employed by UC Davis for 25 years.

All members new and current are invited to the dinner to share stories, renew acquaintances, and be recognized and commended for their contributions to the university.

The dinner meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the ballroom at the Activities and Recreation Center. Invitations have been mailed to all new and current members, and reservations are due by Wednesday, Nov. 13. Current members are encouraged to invite and accompany “newbies” to the celebration.

• “Sexual Harassment: Advanced Topics” — While this course includes a review of relevant terminology and UC Davis policies, the focus will be practicing the skills needed to respond to reports of sexual harassment in a university environment. • “Unpacking Oppression” — Participants will explore the cultural barriers that perpetuate oppression at the institutional level. In addition to oppression theory, the course provides an opportunity to increase awareness regarding power and privilege with the goal of fostering a more inclusive and equitable campus environment.
