A new era dawns...

Garry Pearson, superintendent of facilities for vegetable crops, and Rogelio Montoya, a senior agricultural technician in vegetable crops, work in the new Core Greenhouse Complex, erecting research displays and making other final preparations in the facility, which will be officially unveiled Oct. 15 during a New Plant Sciences Facilities opening and a celebration. The complex adds 27,000 square feet of premier greenhouse space to the campus and is critical to teaching and basic and applied science. Among other things, the complex’s cross-disciplinary plant and seed research seeks to address problems facing agriculture in California. On Oct. 15, Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef and deans Neal Van Alfen and Phyllis Wise are among those set to speak starting at 10 a.m. Tours, displays and refreshments also will be part of the public festivities, which run until noon.
