Wildflowers at the Jepson Prairie Reserve

Guided walks among flowers and wildlife are planned every Saturday and Sunday from March 10 through May 13 at the Jepson Prairie native grassland reserve, part of the UC Davis Natural Reserve System.

Docents are set to lead easy walks over mima mounds (mysterious bumps in the landscape), through winding swales and around flower-fringed vernal pools. The walks are scheduled to start at 10 a.m., with no reservations needed; a $1 donation is requested. Waterproof footwear is advisable after rain.

The reserve is off Cook Lane, which cuts off Highway 113 about 10 miles south of Dixon. To arrange group tours, contact the Solano Land Trust, (707) 432-0150, ext. 202, or www.solanolandtrust.org.

UC Davis' Natural Reserve System Web site, http://nrs.ucdavis.edu, includes directions to Jepson Prairie.
