More than 500 Expected at College Workshops

* Sept. 29, Saturday -- More than 500 people are expected to attend college information sessions at UC Davis' fourth annual "Fall Family Gathering" in Sacramento's William Land Park. Those invited include participants in the campus's Early Academic Outreach Program of Undergraduate Admissions and Outreach Services. The program serves K-12 students from educationally or economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Concurrent workshops -- offered in English, Spanish, Hmong, Vietnamese and Russian -- will help participants understand the public school system and help students work successfully toward admission to university. They will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., also will include games and entertainment for younger children and information booths representing various community service agencies and organizations.
