MONTE CARLO MERRIMENT...

Sue Britz-Diaz, wife of Hebert Diaz Flores in Information and Educational Technology, celebrates her victory at the roulette table as Gladys Young, of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, looks on during Monte Carlo night in Freeborn Hall. The March 19 event, open to staff, faculty and students, featured Mardi Gras-themed entertainment ranging from casino tables to comedy shows to Taiko drummers and demonstrations of magic. The magic show, performed by Jonathan Lopez, drew raves from the crowd of around 200, according to Monte Carlo night co-organizer Marge Buckner. Buckner worked with Zack O'Donnell of Staff Assembly and 20 active committee members to make the night a success. "It was a joint effort," Buckner says. "It truly showed teamwork among the university community." Plans are to make the alcohol-free event available to the wider Davis community next year, she says. Sponsors of the event included Staff Assembly, the Hispanic Staff Association, African American Faculty and Staff Association, the Asian Pacific American Staff Association, the Staff Affirmative Action and Diversity Advisory Council, the Office of Administration, Staff of American Indian Descent, The Office of Campus Community Relations, Human Resources and Repro Graphics.
