The Icelandic band Sigur Rós is the common link between a film and a concert scheduled for next week at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

The film, Heima, documenting Sigur Rós's tour of the band's homeland last summer, is a free event: 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, in the Vanderhoef Studio Theatre. "Combining both the biggest and smallest shows of their career, the entire tour was filmed, and now provides a unique insight into one of the world’s shyest and least understood bands captured live in their natural habitat," states the Heima website.

Three nights later, Thursday, Dec. 9, the Kronos Quartet is set to perform an eclectic program — created exclusively for the Mondavi Center. The program underscores the narrow distance between contemporary classical music and instrumental rock, with works by Sigur Rós, film composer Clint Mansell (Requiem for a Dream) and more.

The concert is set to begin at 8 p.m. in Jackson Hall.

• Lara Downes Family Concert: Neverland to Wonderland — Drawing on the classic tales Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland, Artist-in-Residence Downes, a pianist, celebrates childhood mystery and enchantment, including music by Leonard Bernstein, Erich Korngold, Benny Golson and David Del Tredici. The program includes a multimedia element created and directed by Mindy Cooper, with performers from the new Mondavi Center Young Artists Theatre Workshop. 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, Vanderhoef Studio Theatre.

• Messiah — The Mondavi Center continues its holiday tradition of bringing in the American Bach Soloists to perform the Bach masterpiece. UC Davis Choral Director Jeffrey Thomas leads this early music ensemble. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, Jackson Hall.
