A missing UC Davis student was found safe about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night after an extensive police search.

UC Davis police Lt. Matt Carmichael said the 20-year-old woman was distraught and considered at risk when she walked away from her apartment in the Orchard Park housing area on campus about 2:45 p.m.

Police asked for the public's help in finding the woman, and issued a photograph of her and a description of what she was wearing when she disappeared. Two police helicopters searched for the student until dark, and two search-and-rescue specialists and their scent dogs were also involved in the search.

Assisting the UC Davis police were the Sacramento and Davis police departments and the sheriff's offices of Yolo and Sacramento counties.
